8th Grade Projects - WWII Museum Project Started

Hello all!

Just wanted to do another update, sorry I missed last week.

So, we are continuing to work on WWII. This is our last week of "front loading" information. Last week students learned about the Jewish Holocaust and the Chinese Holocaust. This week we are focusing on the most pivotal battles of the war.

We want to give students as much time as possible to work on their museum exhibits, and with testing the schedule will be crazy, so we are having them start building next week. Last week students chose their groups and topics for their Museum Exhibits, and this week we have been allowing them about 50 minutes a day to work on their exhibits with their groups. They will probably need to bring in supplies to build their exhibits from home, so this week they will hopefully be figuring that out.

The Exhibits will be on display May 18th, and parents are encouraged to come! More details will follow regarding the specifics of that day, but please mark it on your calendar. Your students are working really hard on these, and they would love to share what they've learned and done with you!

Also, I updated grades, so they should be up to date with everything I have, and I will do my best to stay on top of them.

Thank you for raising amazing young people!

8th Grade Projects - World War II

Hello all!

I wanted to update you on what we are working on in Projects, as well as catch you up on what we've been working on the past few weeks.

Students worked on their Great Depression Websites and turned them in right before Spring Break. I was so impressed with all of their hard work! If you haven't yet, I would encourage you to have your child show you their website. They spent a lot of time and put a lot of effort into building beautiful websites, as their grades reflected!

After Spring Break we started learning about World War II. First we reviewed the Treaty of Versailles that ended World War I and how it contributed to causing World War 2. Then we reviewed which countries were part of the Axis Powers and which were with the Allied Powers. On Thursday, students worked to label a map of Europe and the Pacific that showed which countries were Axis Powers, which were Allied Powers, which were controlled by the Axis Powers, and which were neutral, along with where major battles took place. Students will finish this map tomorrow (Tuesday).

Today, students will hear from Ollie Slonaker, who is a former History and Geography teacher who went to Dachau and other sites important to World War II. We are so excited for students to have the opportunity to hear from someone who has actually been to and studied these significant sites and times.

For the rest of the week, students will be studying Adolf Hitler in an attempt to gain a better understanding of this man who made a radical impact on history.

As a quick reminder, the Middle School Student Council is raising money for the Fallon Youth Club. Each classroom has a container to collect money, and the class with the most money at the end of April will be rewarded with a movie and Taco Bell for lunch. So if you have any spare change laying around the house, please consider sending it with your student so that they can donate it to Fallon Youth Club and potentially win a lunch party!
